Canada Mountain Biking - British Columbia's Spectacular Biking!

In many parts of Canada mountain biking has been growing fast in popularity - not least due to the excellent mountain biking terrain!

An example is British Columbia, where in virtually every part of the province you will find bubbly local enthusiasm for Canada mountain biking, a willingness to share knowledge, and a host of premier trails to put to the test.

As with all Canada mountain biking, the scenery of British Columbia is splendid, and there are places in the province where it is possible to do mountain biking 10 months of the year.

In the northern part of the province you can try the Otway Nordic Center Trails, that offer Canada mountain biking fans everything from flat riding to steep down runs, such as the Descent of Doom. In summer, cross country winter ski trails are often used for mountain biking. In the Cariboo they include Lower Lake Ski Trails, and 99 Mile Hill Ski Trails.

In Canada mountain biking routes have been established in many areas that were previously inaccessible. For example, old logging roads in and around the Quesnel area, have been turned into dedicated biking routes.

If you ask around in Williams Lake, you will be advised to try the Fox Loop, a technically difficult trail.

Canada mountain biking becomes really spectacular in the BC Rockies. In the beautiful area that awaits you between the Rocky Mountains and the Purcells, you will find biking opportunities to exceed your wildest expectations.

Cranbrook, the major city in the Rockies has great biking opportunities, from the moderate Forestry Hill Bypass Trail, to the technically and physically challenging Big Hill, and the easy Isidore Canyon Trail.

You may also want to visit Golden, a picturesque mountain town with some excellent mountain biking trails in the alpine terrain. Enjoyable Canada mountain biking includes the moderate to difficult Canyon Creek Loop, the easy West Bench Lower Road, and the Powerline Descent which is for the skilled.

Rossland is considered the mountain bike capital of British Columbia. It receives 300 inches of snowfall per year. When the snow subsides, you will find forested singletrack, and abandoned mining roads perfect for mountain biking. It attracts riders all summer long, and is home to the Rubberhead Classic Mountain Bike Festival each July, an exhilarating Canada mountain biking event!

Then of course, as far as Canada mountain biking goes, you shouldn't head back home before visiting the Sunshine Coast!

Here you will find many remote logging roads and trails offering breath-taking views! One of many such trails is the 10 mile Lyon Lake Loop for advanced riders.

This trail offers panoramic views of Georgia Strait, Vancouver Island, Texada Island, and the Coast Mountains. You will see some of the oldest forests in Canada mountain biking here.

While Canada mountain biking is on your agenda, Vancouver Island deserves a place on your list. If you enjoy diversity, this region will give it to you. You will get you fill of unbelievable vistas and waterfalls, tempered by tranquil lakes. Advanced bikers will be tested to the limit, but there is also room for novices.

One of the attractions on the island is the Hartland Mountain Bike Park off West Saanich Road in Victoria. Trails are moderate to difficult, becoming expert in wet weather. For an easier ride, the 55km Galloping Goose Trail between Victoria and Sooke, is a spectacular Canada mountain biking option.

If you only have time or stamina for a day trip, you have several choices, all between 11km and 13km one way. Two of these are to follow the Galloping Goose Trail, then Six Mile Road, to Thetis Lake Regional Park. Alternatively use Atkins Avenue on your way to Mill Hill Regional Park.

A Canada mountain biking weekend may follow the Goose, with an overnight stay in the Sooke area, followed by a detour to East Sooke Regional Park, before you return. This is more or less 40km one way. You will experience a taste of every landscape, from rocky slopes, to cool water, and a variety of vegetation.

At the end of any hard mountain biking day, you should find yourself in the vicinity of a variety of comfortable lodgings, with a bed for every budget. There are enough guidebooks, and tourist information available, to help you to make the most of your Canada mountain biking trip.

Just remember that BC is becoming a popular destination. Make sure that you reserve your bike and bed for Canada mountain biking, otherwise you may have to go hiking...

Once you have decided on an appropriate theme you can have fun selecting the items and putting together your very personalized gift basket. Now let's have some fun with these ideas.

A gift for a tea lover can be quite fun. Select a basket with an opening of about 15" and line the basket with a pair of table napkins in a gingham or country print. Then fill with an assortment of flavored teas, a pair of floral teacups, some shortbread cookies or other tea cookies, and top it off with a 12" or 18" posable plush stuffed animal bunny. Place the basket in the middle of a long strip of clear or colored cellophane (about 60") and bring the corners up to the top. Tie a colorful ribbon around the cellophane above the basket to secure it. Add a gift tag or greeting card. Now you have a very personalized gift basket to give. For a variation, select an oriental pattern of napkins and teacups and a variety of oriental teas. Top with a 12" or 18" posable panda bear stuffed animal.

Let's say you are giving to a man; is he the outdoor sportsman type or is he the type that prefers the open sea? For the outdoor type you might choose a rugged looking basket made of grapevine or willow. Then fill with a sporting or biking magazine, an assortment of energy bars or trail mix, a bottle of spring water, bug repellent and sunscreen. Now top it off with a realistic looking 12" or 18" stuffed animal bear, fox, wolf or moose. Wrap with cellophane and tie with rope or heavy twine for a more sporty look. For variation, select a zoology magazine and top the assortment with a stuffed animal lion, tiger, orangutan or polar bear. For an aquatic theme, select a fishing basket or similar wicker or reed basket; fill with a boating magazine and an assortment as above or snacks and beverages and top with a plush stuffed animal whale, dolphin or octopus.

Creating a gift basket for a child can be lots of fun. Select a basket that can be used for storing smaller toys in later. Fill with a few bananas, snacks, crayons, and zoo or jungle animal coloring books. Then add a 12" or 18" stuffed animal monkey, giraffe, tiger or lion. Wrap and tie with colorful ribbons.

These are just a few of the endless possibilities of personalized gift baskets you can create by adding plush stuffed animals. Let your imagination run wild and have fun giving gift baskets!

Exploring the Dangers of Bear Hunting

For some reason, people seem interested in the notion of hunting a bear through the wilderness and killing it. While it may seem strange, there is a tiny cult of people that follow bear hunting considerably and make it an active part of their lives. These people tend to find generalized hunting a trifle too "tame" for their tastes and instead lurk following on from the lumbering bears of the forest. Often seen as an effort to prove their manhood, bear hunting is a detrimental and largely unnecessary sport that usually challenges all notions of natural balance and order. Instead, most bear hunting aspects lead to detrimental outcomes or to the opportunity of extinction.

Bear hunting, while seemingly unnecessary to the normal person, is actually a legal and monitored area of the hunting regulations in North the US. Alaska is one of the biggest places for hunting bears. Several times every twelve months, Alaska can be located swarming with hunters attempting to bag the large one and those just curious to view the bear hunts. The danger and general excitement of the hunt is plenty to draw on the very basic components of human nature and create a buzz around bear hunting. It is a harsh reality but for the bears and for some innocent bystanders, bear hunting creates a chaotic and unfortunate scene.

It is argued by hunters that the bear population is rapidly recharging and regenerating itself, ending in the moral validity of bear hunting. In other words, there are enough bears globally and, furthermore, without bear hunting the people of bears in certain areas would be overwrought. While this notion could be partially true, it is also important to consider that bear hunters commonly are not properly educated in the matter. Some bear hunters are not in search of purposes of thinning a specific species to maintain some sense of animal control in the area. This results in many bear hunters callously shooting at anything that moves and taking down anything that looks like a bear, paying no mind to the species or need for the bear.

For this reason, bear hunting is best left to the professionals. There are many within the wildlife community that are presented with the undertaking of taking down the bear population by statistically represented and supported numerical values. These wildlife officials know what bears to look for and have identified the bears that are older and weaker, leaving the decision of hunting bears owing to a real representation of the bear community in a specific area and to actual natural law.

On that point, bear hunting seems to be the domain of the testosterone-driven hunters. The hunters seeking the best feasible kill are commonly adrenaline junkies that are seeking danger and excitement. As many examples over the course of time have proven, hunting can supply that danger and excitement in more than ample amounts. This leads to fatalities or injuries that are regularly results of people getting close to bears or people getting engaged in the bear's natural habitat. In short, people simply do not know when to leave well adequate alone.

With all of this rhetoric around bear hunting, one would feel like the very notion of how detrimental the sport is would be sufficient of a repellent. Still, every season more hunters are flocking to alleged hunting sites and every season more needless waste is being done to the gorgeous natural backdrop that bears and other animals call home. The amount of human-led damage to the woods and natural setting of Alaska as a result of bear hunting is staggering.

Despite any moral convictions, it is important to uphold a factual focus when discussing hunting of any kind. Whether we reside in an age in which hunting is required the least bit any longer is certainly up for dispute. Many argue for the sport aspect of it, but an increasing logical approach might suggest that the arguments for the sporting aspect of hunting are better remaining.
